The Year in Review

As the Jonathan Art Foundation Board inaugurates the 2017-18 year and plans for the next Circles of Support member events, we’d like to take a nostalgic look at some of this past year’s activities.

July started the year with a lovely afternoon reception at the neighboring galleries of George Stern and Louis Stern Fine Arts in West Hollywood. Circles members old and new had the chance to meet and mingle, sip wine, and get a little education on the art of collecting. And nothing marks the end of summer like the Jonathan Beach Club’s Labor Day Chili Cook-Off, and JAF was sure to represent, serving up delicious chili, fun, and conversation.

Autumn marked two invitations to Jonathan Breakfast Club art lectures, plus a lovely day where we lunched at the Pacific Club in Newport Beach, toured their art collection, and visited the Irvine and Laguna Art Museums. The season ended with a visit to our own collection on long-term loan at the CA Court of Appeal in Riverside.

In January, JAF Circles members were again treated to free tickets to the LA Art Show Opening Night Premier Party, compliments of the art fair’s organizers! We also enjoyed a private tour of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher's extensive California art collection in downtown Los Angeles. This incredible collection represents work spanning over one hundred years and traces the changing California environmental, social and political climates, through early plein air painting and modern and contemporary art. We even caught a peek at art by our very own Grafton Tanquary!

On March 25th came our highly anticipated annual gourmet dinner and auction, Celebration of California. Silent and live auction items included fine wine and spirits, luxury items, fine art, museums and sports events, and many more. Finally, May saw us toasting to the most recent paintings to adorn the Town Club’s walls.
