JAF Community Outreach

Jonathan Club members all can visit either of its two world-class facilities, the Town Club and Beach Club, and experience and enjoy the works of art in the Club’s and JAF’s collections. In a way, these beautiful facilities are our art museums. But an important legal requirement for JAF that helps protect our 501(c)3 tax-exempt status is to have an active program of lending art to museums and institutions so the public can view, study and enjoy them just like Jonathans are able to do on a daily basis.

Much time and effort goes into making sure the art we agree to lend is going to good temporary “homes,” that they are adequately insured, are transported by reputable and experienced movers, and that the proper documentation is executed to protect the art.

Currently we have three paintings on loan to two museums. Close by in Pasadena JAF has lent two paintings from its collection, Angel Espoy’s Monterey Coast and Asilomar Dunes by Albert DeRome, to the Alyce de Roulet Williamson Gallery at the world-famous Art Center College of Design. The exhibition SKY is on display through August 23rd. SKY examines how we humans have conceptualized the sky through our history and how new scientific discoveries have changed our understanding of the planet and of ourselves.

Further up north is Granville Redmond: The Eloquent Palette at the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento. Currently on view through May 17th, the show will then travel to the Laguna Art Museum from June 28 to September 20. Redmond (1871 – 1935) is one of the giants of California Impressionism, and this exhibit includes approximately eighty-five of his paintings. The Club has proudly lent California Landscape, Oaks and Meadows to the show.

These exceptional museums are just but two of the venues that we have lent pieces to from our collections over the many years JAF has been in existence.
